A publisher is holding a pitch contest next week where you have to pitch your novel in 25 words or less. The winner receives a free 25 page edit, and if the manuscript is in good enough shape, a contract! Have you ever tried to explain something in 25 words or less? I haven’t. I couldn’t. I’m a talker, most people know that.
To be exact, I’m an emoter. That’s the technical, multiple intelligences, psycho babble, left brain right brain term for my personality. I talk from the heart, feeling the words. I’m passionate. I’m dramatic. I care about your feelings. I value the words that I use. I can’t explain ANYTHING in 25 words or less.
But God can.
He says, “I AM”, and we know that He is God. He says, “Love your neighbor as yourself” and we are given one of the great commandments of all time. He says, “Go and sin no more” and we are shown the greatest of mercies. But perhaps the greatest 25 words or less, coming from the mouth of God, are these:
“For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son, so that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life!” (John 3:16) – Yes, sports fans, THAT John 3:16.
God says it all in His 25 words or less. Rather than struggle over how to find my own 25 words, I think I’ll just share one.
